Text Files
The term text file is often used as a synonym for ASCII file; it is a file in which the characters are represented by ASCII codes. It is that file which holds codes. Basically it is a file that is saved in the computer that stores different documents and series of alpha numeric characters. It contains a journal or newspaper article, personal note, a book, or any other text that can be rendered accurately in typewritten form.
Basically the text file is almost similar to the word processing files this is because both primarily contain the textual. It has a difference that text files does not record any information like size, style and other document that specify appearance of finished documents. Sometimes due to some problem text files may become corrupt. Generally corruption occurs due to damage of data in some way the damage may be little that may affect the few elements in the large file; however there may be many reason for the corruption of the text files they are as follows:
- Physical Problem with storage media
- Natural disaster
- Due to virus Infection
- Malfunctioning of Hardware
- Error in Software
But all this corruption can be repaired efficiently it does not mean that everything is lost.
Some very common file extension that are found in Text files are as follows:
.doc – It is known as “Word Document” and it is has been created by the Microsoft word that includes entire version of MS Office that may contains images, text, chart, tables, graphs, print setting and page formatting. It stores data in single binary file. It is associated with Mac OS, Windows operating system and Linux.
.docx – It is known as “Word Open XMl Document”, it is one of the most common word processing program that contains image, text, styles, formatting many other document setting that are commonly used for business purposes and academic settings. It stores collection in separate files and folders as compressed zip package, it has been especially designed in order to make document content accessible. This application is easily associated with Mac OS, Windows operating system and Linux.
.log – It is also known as “Log File”, this file extension is mainly used by the operating system and programs that contains plain text log that are related to certain events with timestamp. It is used to track the system events that are helpful in installing programs. Generally web server generates log files with which it becomes easy to track visitors and monitor bandwidth usage. This application is associated with Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.msg – It is also known as “Outlook Mail Message” and is especially used for message that are saved in MS Outlook and has multiple email fields that includes sender, recipient, date, e-mail fields, subject, message body and is compatible with other programs that uses MS Messaging Programming Interface. This application is associated with Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.pages – It is also known as “Page Document”, those documents that are created by Apple pages, page layout and word processor are basic text document and complex multi-page brochure includes photos, pictures, tables, graphs, charts, text all these things are created from blank page or it can also be built from template. This supplication is associated with Mac OS.
.rtf – It is also known as “Rich Text Format File”, it is a common text file format that supports “rich text” and it may includes many types of text formatting like different font size, italics, bold types, custom tab settings, images and many more. This application is associated with Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.txt – Known as “Plain Text File”, it contains unformatted text that are recognized by word processing program or text editing. The application is supported by Mac OS, Windows operating system and Linux.
.wpd – Known as “Word Perfect Document”, those text documents that are created by Corel WordPerfect, it is a perfect word processing application that supports text, images, tables etc. it can also be exported to other formats from WordPerfect. It is supported by Windows operating system.
.wps – Known as “Microsoft Works Word Processor Document”, it is created with MS Works word processing software that is similar to MS Word document but it does not include advanced formatting options that are contained in Word Document. It supports Mac OS and Windows operating system.
