A disk file is basically used on Windows operating system and Mac and is an important application. It is typically encrypted and compressed and is used to mount the virtual disk image on the operating system after opening it. It is also useful to save the data in the form of directory, boot code and attributes. CD and DVD can be used without any physical drivers. It is helpful to have the duplicate data from original disc and has the capability to store exact and original version.
Due to corruption the saved files in disk becomes inaccessible and due to this reason users become unable to access the files. General reason for corruption in disk files are virus attack, hardware malfunctioning, error in software. But corruption can be resolved competently and after this user can use the files after restoring the disk files that may have been lost due to corruption.
.dmg – It is also popular as “Mac OS X Disk Image”, basically it contains raw block data that are typically compressed and encrypted sometimes, it contains Mountable disk image that are created in Mac OS X, it is also helpful to mount the virtual disk on the desktop when it is opened. It supports Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.iso – It is also known as “Disc Image File”, it is useful to contain duplicate data from original disc, and it includes the data that are saved on disc as well as on the file system information like, boot code, directory structures and attributes. It is different from copying entire files from a disc this is due to the disc header information which is lost while copying process. File extension .iso is used to restore exactly original version. It supports Linux, Windows operating system and Mac OS.
.toast – It is popular as “Toast Disc Image”, it is the disc image that is created with Roxio Toast, and it is a popular disc authoring program that is used for Mac. Its function is almost similar to the standard .iso disc image but at the same time contains specific Toast formatting information. It supports Mac OS.
.vcd – It is also known as “Virtual CD”, it is the disc image that is recognized by Windows as an actual disc, even if the data is on the hard disc. It is very helpful to allow DVD and CD to be used without any physical drivers. It is also helpful to mount the disc on the network computers. This extension supports Windows operating system.
