Compressed Files

Compressed files are that which uses the processing of encoding information by using encoding information that uses fewer bits as compared to unencoded representation thus uses specific encoding schemes. In order to make use of compressed files it must be with both sender and receiver of the information that understands the encoding scheme.

This is very useful because it can be used to reduce the size of the files and folders. But there is some situation in which the compressed file becomes inaccessible mainly because of corruption. Basic reasons of corruption are virus attack, hard disk malfunctioning, software error, improper system shut down. But this does not mean that user cannot accesses the compressed files it can be done when the after resolving the corruption. Corruption in Compressed files can be resolved efficiently.

Some important compressed files that are used in compressed files are discussed below:

.7z – It is also popular as “7-Zip Compressed File”, in this the compressed archive that creates with lgor Pavlov's 7-Zip file compression utility. It has high compression ratio and supports Unicode file names and archive header compression. It supports Mac OS, Linux and Windows operating system.

.deb – It is also known as “Debian Software Package”, it is one of the Standard Unix archive that contains two gzipped or bzipped. In this one is used for actual data and other one for installer control information. It also supports Linux and Windows operating system.

.gz – It is also known as “Gnu Zipped Archive”, it is the file compression that are used by standard GNU Zip compression algorithm and it contains a compression of collection of one or more files that are basically used in Unix operating system basically for file compression. It supports Windows operating system, Linux and Mac OS.

.pkg – It is also known as “Mac OS X Installer Package”, it is a compressed installer file that can be used to install a software program, which is commonly used for installing the software in Mac OS X. It supports Mac OS.

.rar – It is also known as “WinRAR Compressed Archive”, it is a file archive that contains one or more than one files that are compressed with RAR compression. This uses a higher compression ratio as compared to any other ZIP compression; it is a compression algorithm that is used by the other compressors. It supports Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating system.

.sit – It is also known as “Stuffit Archive”, it is a compression file that has been “stuffed” by Smith Micro Stuffit software. It is a common file compression format that uses Macintosh system. This means that the files can be used on both Windows platform and Macintosh.

.sitx – It is also known as “Stuffit X Archive”, it is a compressed format that is created by Smith Micro Stuffit and provides 20 % more compression as compared to .sit archives. It is helpful for long-filenames as preservation of UNIX and on Windows file permission. It supports Windows operating system and Mac OS.

.tar.gz – It is also known as “Tarball File”, generally it is compressed with standard GNU zip compression algorithm that contains one or more compressed files. It is mainly used on the UNIX operating system that has package files, installers and programs. This extension supports Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating system.

.zip – It is also popular as “Zipped File”, this is one of the most common type of compression that can be used by every file in the archive that is also compressed separately. It mainly supports file that has compression or decompression program. It supports Mac OS, Windows operating system and Linux.

.zipx – It is also known as “Extended Zip File”, it is that file which is compressed in Zip files and saved in the extended zip format. It contains one or more saved files that are saved as compressed file archive. It also includes the information that indicates the file that creates advanced compression method. It supports Windows operating system.
