Audio file format is used to save and store audio data on computer system. This can be in the form of bitstream but usually it is in the form of audio data format or container format with defined storage layer. This is basically done in order to correspond according to the signal that is in the individual channel with certain resolution.
But there are situation which the Audio file format gets corrupted, this problem generally occurs when any software application is or operating system crashes while the files are open in the memory. In this situation this may happen in the Audio file format that some part of data files that were not saved and causes data corruption or application failure.
But this does not mean that everything has been lost due to corruption, lost or deleted data or files can be recovered efficiently. There are some important extension files that are discussed below:
.aac – It is also known as “Advanced Audio Coding File”, it is the compressed audio files that are similar to MP3. This provides better performance improvements as such it provides both transient signals and stationary. It maintains quality that is indistinguishable from original audio source. It supports Mac OS, Linux and Windows operating system.
.aif – This is also known as “Audio Interchange File format”, it is used to contain compressed CD-quality audio that is similar to CD-quality audio. It is similar to .WAV that is commonly used to store standard CD audio. It supports Windows operating system and Mac OS.
.iff - It is also known as “Interchange File Format” It is electronic file format that are used by the Electronic art and contains text, audio data and image. It is made up of sections that are commonly known as chunks that are basically defined with four-letters.
.m3u – It is also known as “Media Playlist File”, it is uniform resource locator that contains a playlist of MP3 and many other audio, video files. It has list of location that contains media files in plain text format that are supported by many media players. It supports Windows operating system, Linux and Mac OS.
.mid – Also known as “MIDI File”, it is standard musical instrument digital interface that is used by music authoring and in mixed programs. MIDI data are encoded by MID files. Not only is this but is also known to contain controller data for device. It supports Windows operating system, Linux and Mac OS.
.mp3 – Also known as “MP3 Audio File” It is compressed audio file format that are especially developed by Moving Picture Expert Group. It is used to store music file and audio book in hard drive that are capable of providing CD quality sound. It supports Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.mpa – Also known as “MPEG-2 Audio File”, it has the capability to reduce the file size by providing minimal effect on the overall sound quality that are based on MPEG-1 audio-coding standard. It supports Windows operating system and Mac OS.
.ra – Also known as “Real Audio File”, basically it is used by RealPlayer which is an audio and video streaming program. It may contain audio, video data that uses the proprietary Real compression algorithm. It supports Mac OS, Linux and Windows operating system.
.wav – It is also known as “WAVE Audio File”, it is a standard file format that is used to store waveform data. It is helpful in recording audio with different sampling and bitrates. It supports Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating system.
.wma – It is also known as “Windows Media Audio File”, it is audio file that is compressed with Windows Media compression. It is one of the most standardized file formats that are used in audio file format. It supports Mac OS and Windows operating system.
